Word to the wise. Melon rinds are fine to compost. Citrus rinds are toxic to worms. Worms are your friends, don't do that to them. As a matter of fact when I'm container composting I go to the baitshop and get "red wigglers" and throw them in. Those are the little worms. Nightcrawlers and other earth worms need territories of hundreds of square yards. The red wigglers will be perfectly content in your container. Worms have gizzards similar to birds. Throw in some eggshells, the worms will snap off pieces and ingest them, and those will help them grind up their food.
